MUDA chairman and commissioner inspect various developmental works

Mysuru: D Dhruvakumar, Chairman, Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and Mahesh, its Commissioner, along with other officials concerned inspected various developmental works which are being undertaken by the Authority across the city here on Tuesday.

During the inspection, they also inspected the ongoing work of a choultry which is being constructed at Hebbal at the cost of Rs 3 Crore and later visited Government PU College in e same locality where the chairman and commissioner assured to set right issues related to flooring. Later, they visited Bannimantap ground which is also called as torch light parade ground where the work for enhancing seating capacity by 10,000 more is in progress. Currently, the seating capacity of Bannimantap ground is 22,000. Inorder to increase it to nearly 35,000, MUDA is spending Rs 6.5 Crore. The work is expected to be completed by August or September this year. The contractor assured the authorities of completing the work few weeks ahead of the annual Dasara celebration.

Next the team inspected the ongoing work at Bal Bhavan. Chairman Dhruvakumar was disappointed with the snail’s pace of work and called upon the authorities and also the contractor concerned to speed up the work. Dhruvakumar assured to make Bal Bhavan which is spread across 13 acre plot more attractive as a tourist place with a full-fledged park in it and assured to get the work completed by the end of this year.

MUDA Commissioner Mahesh said, “Along with our chairman and other officials we inspected few places where works are under progress including Bannimantap ground and Bal Bhavan. The work at Bannimantp may get completed well before Dasara but we are doubtful about Bal Bhavan. Bal Bhavan will get a new toy train at a cost of Rs Rs 70.82 Lakh which will be manufactured at Central Railway Workshop in Ashokapuram. We will hand over the money to Central Railway Workshop authorities in few days’ time so that they can start the work.” Once MUDA authority’s handover the money, Central Railway Workshop will complete the work in three to four months’ time. The proposed toy train by MUDA will have one power car plus four trailers (capacity 20 each).

Central Railway Workshop which is in Ashokapuram had started manufacturing narrow gauge trains way back during 1970s. As on date, it has successfully delivered 15 toy trains which are running in amusement parks and rail museums across the country including in Rajasthan, New Delhi, Arunachal Pradesh and Karnataka, bringing immense joy to lakhs of children. Now, the Central Railway Workshop in Mysuru has become the prime manufacturing facility for toy trains in Indian Railways.
