Mysore : The recent case of alleged kidnap and murder of a 20 day old infant by dumping it in a canal, has taken a new twist with police investigation revealing that the mother of the infant was itself the culprit and was responsible for the killing of her own child. It is learnt, the childs mother Sumayya Khan has admitted her guilt.
Earlier, Mandi Police had received a complaint from Sumayya Khan that her child was kidnapped by some miscreants from Ashoka Road. She had stated that the incident had taken place when she had come to a jewellery shop on Ashoka Road on June 20 to pledge her jewels. The assailants who also kidnapped her then abandoned her near Colombia Hospital but took the child along, she had alleged. Sumayya was even inconsolable when the body of the baby was traced in the Virija canal the next morning.
However, the police who took up investigation realized that it was impossible to kidnap someone from a busy road and even realized that both Sumayya and her husband Fairoze were making contradictory statements. They tried to go deep into the case and came to know that the baby was suffering from pneumonia and was discharged from Mission Hospital just two days ago.
Fairoze who was an auto driver had even pledged his jewels to treat the child. But Sumayya who found it difficult to take care of the child, without the knowledge of her husband had killed the child by dumping it in the canal and had then weaved a kidnap story.
This incident wherein a mother has been cruel enough to kill her own sick child has shocked the city.
