“MCC’s annual property tax target is Rs 85 crore”

Mysuru: “What supposed to be the shocking news of the day is,  most of the commercial establishments in the city have not obtained a completion report (CR) properly which has caused a loss of nearly Rs 115 crore. If the officials continue the same attitude one or the other day officials will sell Mysuru City Corporation,” alleged corporator M N Nataraj.

In the meeting of finance and tax fixation standing committee of MCC held on Tuesday, some of the information which was revealed by the standing committee members shocked everybody.

M N Nataraj who took officials to task said, “None other than the MCC zone 8 office which is 26 sq feet in area, is paying property tax for only 19.5 sq feet.  A six floor apartment and a reputed five star hotel have mentioned the flooring is done as red tiles and have used granite and also the property tax collected for the space is very less. This has caused a  huge loss to the MCC.”

He said, “MCC has a target to collect Rs 85 crore property tax annually but it can be enhanced by the proper inspection of revenue inspectors. But at many areas no field surveys have been done and this has caused a huge loss to MCC.”

Hike in Pourakarmikas salary

The finance and tax fixation standing committee decided to hike the pourakarmikas salary from April 2015. Presently Pourakarmikas are getting salary of Rs 10,445 including all the benefits and it will be hiked to Rs 12,241. As per the urban development act, the hike is done by MCC.

GTC lease price hikes

The old tennis club of city, Garden Tennis club land which was given land on lease by the MCC has now taken the decision to continue the lease for next three years. The lease period ended in 2009. The committee decided to collect Rs 50 thousand lease annually till 2015 and from 2015, the tax collection will be hiked by five percent every year.

Chairman Rehana Banu, members of the standing committee Girish Prasad, Subramanya (Snake shyam), Prasanth, MCC revenue department assistant commissioner Jagadeesh, all MCC zonal assistant commissioners and many other officials were present.
