Mysuru: Administration along with Zoo, Palace and Exhibition Authorities have come up with unique idea and proposed ‘Mysuru mass tourist cum parking facilities for visitors of Zoo, Palace and Chamundi Hills’. It is a move to provide sufficient parking space and to ensure free flow of traffic in city.

Authorities of Mysuru Zoo, Exhibition, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Palace Board discussed on proposed project with Deputy Commissioner C Shikha at DC Office on Saturday. However, DC said that the authorities want to execute the project before coming dasara.
The authorities have estimated Rs 880 lakh funds to develop parking facilities including gates, compound walls, drinking water facility, toilets, restaurants, bus terminal, visitors’ longue at Exhibition grounds and Rs 200 lakh in front of Mysuru Zoo. Authorities have estimated Rs 460 lakh funds for parking facility at Karanji Tank Bund Road. The works will be taken up in two-phase.
Mysuru Zoo receives nearly 3.30 lakh tourists’ every year and the parking space have been provided at 1.24 acer of land, belonging to Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), in front of Zoo. The land is sufficient only for parking of 50% of vehicles of zoo visitors and rest will be parked on road in front of Zoo and other area, said Zoo director B P Ravi, adding, in future days, number of visitors are expected more.
In order to tackle the problem of lack of parking space, zoo authority has prepared a detailed project report to construct multistory parking facility. Zoo authorities had a discussion with MCC to hand over the land to Zoo Authority and sent a proposal to Urban Development Department, Bengaluru for its approval.
Concerned authorities have conducted a survey on the proposed land and Exhibitions Grounds, which has 12-acr land, to convert them into parking lot on June 4 and gave a report.
Hurdles for new project according to Zoo authorities:
Dearth of funds with Zoo authority.
Height of parking lot.
Sound pollution and environment pollution for animals in zoo.
Availability of parking facility for visitors during construction period.
Opposition from residents, adjoining vendors.
Survey recommendations
Only mass passenger vehicles, above 10 seat capacity, will be permitted to park in front of Zoo.
As the distance between Zoo and Exhibition Grounds is around 400 meters, parking space can be provided at Exhibition grounds for cars and light vehicles.
With the support of KSRTC, free transportation facility for visitors to Palace, Chamundi Hills can be arranged.
Advantages
According to authorities, with this move, problems at three tourists’ places can be solved and fuel can be saved. More income will be generated to the government and also can reduce the cost of parking at three-place.
Kiosks to issue tickets
Adding to this, the district administration also thinking to implement kiosk to issue tickets and kiosks will be facilitated at every tourist destinations. Visitors need not to wait at every destination to get tickets. Initially, three-different tickets will be issued for palace, zoo and Karanji Lake. In future, single ticket system for different destinations will be made available, said Shikha.
