Mysuru: Women’s entry point is not difficult but to move up the ladder is the real challenge in a Business scenario opined Margaret Alva Former Governor of Rajasthan.

She was speaking after inaugurating a one day conference on women’s leadership “Advancing women for Business growth” organised by CII to mark international Women’s Day at a private hotel.

Speaking at the occasion she said that Women face challenges all their lives as co partners in family to  the decision making table. Every man describes his mother as multitasking but her labour of love and time  in family and at bussiness is not accounted for in terms of economics and it is also not taken on board, while enumerating the GDP of the country. There is a need to bring in change in the mindset and  I strived to make the change in the women’s department and institutions,  saying that the department should not be termed welfare departments but women and Child development department. “Gender sensitive approach is needed for development” she added.

Further she said, ” to me, the concept of development means inclusive process and in the very next time the question development for whom arises with the diversified status in the society. It is very hard to say that the Human Development in India is going down and it is just because of the “Son stroke “mentality among the society. In our country skill development to men is IT sector and for women Pizza  making.  There is no common denominator to access people on grounds of development.

Speaking on the subject. she said that  the 33% reservation brought 2.5 million women to the limelight of politics and with this the human side of the development has started to take place. Sharing her experiences  she said that to be in politics you need to be firm and I was not a woman who was for compromises and that is why I gave my resignation to my party.Politics is a struggle, and every time u speak you are misrepresented and you need to stand firm on your view and go further. This budget has slashed all the lines for women development she added.
