Over 40 injured in clash over temple land dispute

Maddooru: A clash between two groups of people over a dispute pertaining to the Inam land of the  Shree Narayana Swamy Temple at Rajegowdanadoddi here  left over 40 persons injured on  Sunday June 29. Around 13 persons have reportedly suffered serious injuries. It is reported that there was a dispute between Gowramma and other villagers over ownership of the land.

The clash broke out when some villagers namely Chikkonu, Mutturaju and others  had left their sheep and cattle for grazing in the Inam  land of the temple.  It is  said  Gowramma’s sons  Satish Babu, AC,  Rohit, grandson Vinay, his friends Pradeep, Kiran  arrived in two autorickshaws and a tractor laden with stones and soda bottles and attacked those  who were grazing animals in the land.

Villagers who rushed to the spot, admitted the injured to the hospital. In the meantime,  matters turned worse when the accused Vinay, Pradeep, Kiran and others  tried to get themselves admitted to the hospital alleging they were assaulted by some villagers.   The agitated villagers, thrashed Pradeep, an autorickshaw driver in the hospital premises itself. The police who rushed to the spot, brought things under control.

Tension prevailed once again when arrangements were made to shift the critically injured to a hospital in Mandya. Local MP CS Puttaraju, MLA DC Tammanna and others pacified the agitators and said the matter would be settled through legal recourse.

Additional police forces including a Reserve Police battalion has been posted in the village to avert any further untoward incident.
