Mandya: A lecturer, who was all set to get married soon, ended life, allegedly due to dowry harassment from her would-be husband.
The deceased is Shruthi (26), daughter of Venkatramegowda and resident of Basaveshwaranagar extension in Mandya.

She was a lecturer at BGS Engineering College in Nagamangala taluk.

Her marriage was fixed with K T Huthesh, son of Thimmegowda of Chennarayapatna.

It is said that the engagement ceremony of the two was held on November 6, 2015 and the wedding was fixed for March 27, 2016.

While Shruthi’s family had already handed over 150 gms of gold ornaments to the groom’s family, the groom and his family kept contacting Shruthi to demand for a car, a site in Bengaluru or a house and Rs 5 lakh in cash.

Realising that fulfilling these demands would be close to impossible for her family, Shruthi consumed poison on March 17 leaving behind a 12-page death note speaking of her ordeal.

Shruthi was admitted to a hospital in a critical state where she breathed her last on March 21.

A case has been registered.
