Mandya: The farmers in the State continue to end their lives irrespective of attempts made by the district administration and the government.
In a recent case, a farmer each from Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts committed suicide on July 23.
The farmer from Chamarajanagar district, who ended his life, has been identified as Sidda Shetty, son of Mada Shetty, resident of Bannimapura village in Gundlupet taluk.
Reportedly Sidda borrowed lakhs of rupees from financers to grow crops on his three acre land. However, due to lack of rains and less of water supply, his crops were destroyed, which in turn, forced him to take the extreme step.
He has left behind his wife Bellamma, son Swamy and daughter Thayamma.
Circle Inspector Pramod Kumar, SI Sandeep Kumar, who visited the village, conducted mahazar.
In another case a farmer from Srirangapatna in Mandya district, committed suicide on July 23, itself.
He has been identified as Kumar, son of Madegowda, resident of Sabbanakuppe village in Srirangapatna taluk in Mandya District.
It is said that Kumar, was tilling lands belonging to others on lease and had borrowed Rs. 4 to 5 lakh for cultivating crops.
In a complaint lodged at Srirangapatna Police Station, Kumar’s wife Bharathi has said that Kumar’s problems were compounded by ill health.
Kumar leaves behind his wife Bharathi, a son and a daughter. Town Police have registered a case and are investigating.
