Tamed elephant from Dubare tramples Mahout to death

Madikeri: A Mahout lost his life after a tamed elephant of Dubare elephant camp turned violent, trouncing and trampling him. Another person has been severely injured in the attack that took place in the Elephant Camp on Monday.

The deceased is Annu (28), a Mahout employed at the camp. Labourer identified as Chandra (24) has been injured.

Annu was given responsibility of the elephant named Rajan and on Monday, as usual when Annu came to work and bent down to open Rajan’s chain at about 8 am, Karthik, an eight –year-old elephant that was tied close to Rajan attacked Annu and Chandra.

Annu suffered severe injuries of the stomach and was rushed to Siddapura Community Centre, but was declared brought dead. Karthik had trampled Chandra as well due to which he has suffered severe injuries.

Case has been registered. DFO Suryasen, RFO Nehru and other officers have visited the spot.
