Mysuru: Apart from the new industrial area at Adakanahalli in Nanjangud Taluk where nearly 10 acres is earmarked for dumping industrial waste, the remaining industrial areas, estate in the district do not have any specific area earmarked for dumping industrial wastes, said Ramakrishnegowda, Joint Director, Department of Industries and Commerce, Mysuru district.

It may be recalled that a 14-year-old boy named Harsha had suffered severe burns after he ventured into an open site at Sadanahalli. The boy succumbed to the injuries after battling for life for two days. Close on the heels of the death of the boy, the locals alleged that the boy may have died due to the chemical wastes that are released by the industries in the vicinity into the open land. However, another section has been arguing that there might be some underlying geological factor that may have caused the death.
But, when Deputy Commissioner D Randeep along with District Minister HC Mahadevappa and other officials conducted spot visit, many local residents have reiterated their claims that wastes are being dumped by the industries, which is taking toll in this manner.
While the official verdict is yet to come out regarding the cause for the boy’s death, Deputy Commission D Randeep and Minister HC Mahadevappa have assured that have taken serious note of the incident and will look into the matter of industrial waste dumping.

“As we have not come out with any place for dumping industrial waste, we are concerned about how the industries decomposing their industrial wastes and what exactly they are doing to decompose industrial wastes. We will collect all these details from each industries. We have taken the issue very seriously. When the land is allotted to KIADB, KIADB should reserve exclusive place for dumping industrial waste. During single window meeting where KIADB officials will also be present, we will take up this issue and try to come out with the solution” added Randeep.

“There are 11 industrial areas and 6 industrial estates in the district but most of these industries do not have an earmarked place for dumping industrial wastes which is a mistake. But the new industrial areas which are coming up including at Adakanahalli at Nanjangud Taluk we have earmarked 10 acre exclusively to dump industrial wastes even from neighboring industrial areas which include Kadakola and Tandya industrial areas. In days to come we will speak to KIADB authorities and try to provide place for solid waste management or dumping place for industrial wastes” added Ramakrishnegowda.
