Madikeri: The use of earthmovers in the agriculture and horticulture sector is on the increase but many farmers are not able to use them because of the cost factor. However, in a first-of-its-kind research and development initiative, a Madikeri farmer has developed a mini earthmover at an estimated cost of just Rs 2.5 lakhs.
The genius farmer who developed this unique machine is Hulitala resident Ashwin Kumar, a BSc graduate. He developed this mini earthmover using auto components and hydraulic machines. It works for one hour per litre of diesel, thereby making it very affordable.
According to Kumar, he is able to use this earthmover to level his filed, dig small ponds and perform other farming activities. He uses gears to operate the earthmover blades.
Now, this mini earthmover has become the cynosure of all the farmers and the general public in the district.
