Madikeri: Kodagu police succeeded in nabbing an inter-state gang involved in midnight dacoity a month ago in T. Shettigeri village near Srimanagala on Kodagu-Kerala border and recovered cash, seized vehicles used in the crime.
Disclosing the details, Kodagu Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad said, the police recovered cash amounting to Rs 29.72 lakhs and seized one Xylo, one Wagon R and two pulsar bikes used by the gang in the crime.
The gang of 16 members had attacked three people with iron rods travelling in an Innova car KL57M2582 during the midnight on August 16, 2016. The gang managed to drag Asif and two others occupants from the car who had Rs 38 lakhs received after selling a property. During the robbery, ten men came in Xylo, four in wagon R and rest two in pulsar bike.
Search teams were formed to nab the culprits after the incident near Nalkeri junction. One of the teams managed to get a vital lead and nabbed Cheenikad Ajit resident of Tamracherry in Kerala who had escaped from Salem in Tamil Nadu earlier. During interrogation police managed to get all other details pertaining to the robbery and nabbed 6 others involved and recovered cash of Rs 29.72 laks from them.
It is learnt, all the criminals belong to Kerala and police are on the lookout for remaining nine involved in the robbery. They are in possession of the remaining cash and are likely to be arrested in the next couple of days as police have their addresses.
Three different teams were sent to Kannur, Tellicherry, Manadavadi and Tamaracherry in search of the gang members. Based on the information provided, police nabbed 6 others named Vishak, Sharanu Kumar, Nikhil Kumar, Arun Kumar, Munaf and Shaukath.
The team comprising several policemen led by Kutta circle inspector Diwakar was ably guided by DySP Nagappa.
SP Rajendra Prasad rewarded the team with cash award of Rs 10,000 and complimented them for cracking the case in filmy style in quick time.
