Madikeri : Codava National Council (CNC) stepped up its campaign and urged United Nations Organization ( UNO ) to include Devattparamb in International Holocasut rememberence (IHR) list.
CNC delegation led by its leader N U Nachappa submnitted a memorandum through the DC to the World body and heads of central government in India on Septemeber 29. They organised a Peaceful Codava Sathyagraha in the precinct of DC’s Office before submitting their memorandum.
They urged UNO in their memorandum to take initiative to attract the World consciences about the DevattParamb massacre, in which they believe thousands of Codavas were Killed by Tippu’s army in Connivance of French army in the year 1785, when Tipu ruled the Mysore region. They want the Govt of India to denigrate and condemn the inhuman tragic holocaust of Codava race by Tipu and French East India Company’s Allied forces at DevattParamb during that year.
They urged the cental Government of India to pass a resolution in the Parliament condemning the war crimes during the bygone era besides building a permanent National monument in memory of departed souls.Their memorandum listed several accumulated details pertaining to the incident to justify their demand.
There is lot of resentment within the Kodava community against TIpu Jayanthi celebrated by the State government. Last year the celebration turned violent and the friction between Hindu right wing activists and Muslim organisations led to loss of lives.
