CNC celebrates ‘Kail Poud’ in traditional manner

Madikeri: The Codava National Council (CNC) celebrated its 22nd annual “Kail Poud Namme” in a traditional manner by offering prayers in the midst of agricultural implements and guns.

Under the leadership of CNC President N U Nachappa, the leaders and supporters of the council wearing traditional Codava outfits gathered near junior college. Later, they worshipped in union in the midst of agricultural equipment, traditional Codava implements, swords and guns. Soon after, they proceeded in vehicles to Capital Village and took part in sporting events to coincide with the fest.

They took a pledge to continue their struggle for a separate Codava land, according special status to Codava tribes, inclusion of Codava language in the eighth schedule of Indian Constitution and honour charter of 13 demands.

“Kail Poud” marks the end of sowing season in the region, where all agriculture related activities come to a grinding halt for few days. Special Codava pork dishes and rice varieties are prepared during the festival, celebrated on September 3, across the district.
