Leopard was caught in jaw trap; forest dept rescues

Mysuru: A leopard was caught in a jaw trap placed by poachers and subsequently rescued by the Forest Department officials at Haraganahalli village in Hunsur taluk on Monday December 1.

It is reported that in the morning, Sathyappa, President of Sathya Foundation, who saw a leopard caught in a jaw trap at the coconut farm of one Jayaramegowda and writhing in pain, immediately informed DCF Balakrishna.

ACF Prasanna Kumar, RFO Nanjundaiah, Madaiah and staff, who rushed to the spot on receiving  information, tranquillised the leopard, freed it from the trap and provided treatment for the injuries before releasing it at Nagarahole Forest.

ACF Prasanna Kumar said that the jaw traps are used by the tribals of North India to catch wild animals and has urged the farmers to inform the department if any such instances take place.
