Madikeri: Various organizations in the district have called for Kodagu bandh on July 14, demanding CBI enquiry into the events that led to DySP MK Ganapathi’s death and action against offenders named by him.
In order to prevent any untoward incidents during the bandh, the district administration led by the Deputy Commissioner and a team of police officials have taken lot of precautionary measures.
Addressing a gathering of senior officials of various departments, Kodagu DC, Dr. Richard Vincent D’Souza outlined the measures taken by the administration to ensure peace during the bandh. He also briefed about the measures taken to allow students to attend their PUC supplementary examination and ensure that transport and communication does not get affected on the bandh day. He also stressed that there is no opposition for voluntary closure of shops and establishments on the bandh day, but warned people against taking law in their own hands to enforce bandh by damaging public property and putting innocent lives in danger. He advised all the hospital staff to be present in their respective health centers and directed the police to guard major highways leading to district and taluk headquarters.
The Superintendent of Police P. Rajendra Prasad briefed the gathering about the measures taken by his department to ensure peace. Police officials have been asked to maintain extreme alertness and increase their information collection networks and vigil, especially in sensitive pockets of the district. Sufficient deployment of forces will be at place on all State highways to prevent any untoward incident, said Rajendra Prasad.
Additional DC M Satish Kumar instructed the transport authority to handover 20 additional vehicles to the police department to supervise law and order. Deputy Director of PU board T Swamy said, around 128 students will be writing their PU supplementary examinations and all arrangements have been made for smooth conduct of the examinations.
KSRTC depot manager Geetha said that KSRTC will operate its services based on the inputs relating to the ground situation on the bandh day.
Officials from health, education, zilla and taluk panchyath, revenue, PWD and other departments were present at the meeting held at the district headquarters.
