Ace-sprinter from Kodagu wins bronze at Asian Championship

Kodagu: Proving that if sports’ talents are given proper training and encouragement they will surely make their country proud, ace-sprinter Padmini from Mukalera in Ponnampete went on to win a bronze medal for her country at the Asian championship at Pathumathani, TU Sports Complex in Thailand on Thursday.
PadminiRepresenting India, Padmini continued her good form from the recently-concluded Asian Championships to notch up one bronze medal in the women 4X100 relay event in the 2nd leg of Asian Grand Prix Athletics Series 2015. The Indian women’s relay team comprising Srabani Nanda, Himashree Roy, MG Padmini, and Suseentran Archana finished third with a timing of 45.42 seconds.

Padmini was selected for senior Federation Cup earlier last month. She got further training at the Bengaluru Sai sports association. She was selected for the Indian team and had finished fourth in the relay event held at Coban in China.

Padmini is said to have been interested in sports at the school level itself. She finished her early education in Kodige. Later she continued her studies at a college in Bengaluru. Along with sports, she has balanced her studies as well. She has won many medals in 100 and 200metr women race representing India. She has also won several awards for her achievement in Athletics and has made Kodagu district as well as the country proud by participating in international tournaments.

She has undergone coaching from Bollanda Ayyappa. She is the daughter of Ganesh and Ponnampete Gram panchayath member Sumitha. She is currently working for a private company in Bengaluru.Padmini
