Madikeri: There has been a good response across the district for a Kodagu Bundh call given by the BJP on January 10, Friday in protest against the  attack on  District BJP President Suja Kushalappa by  unidentified assailants.

Most shops and business establishments had voluntarily downed their shutters, while  roads also wore a deserted look in the absence of vehicles. Though the KSRTC buses were on the roads in the morning, they suspended services by afternoon. Private buses were however off the roads since morning.  Vehicles going to wedding, hospitals etc were exempted from the bundh. As the  Kushalnagar, Anechowkur, Karmadu, Kutta, Makutta, Karike and Sampaje gates remained closed, vehicles from other districts too could not enter  Kodagu.

Delegates who had arrived for the Sahitya Sammelan at Madikeri too   were inconvenienced as they were intercepted by activists near the General Timmaiah Circle. Though a few Government offices and hotels were open in Madikeri  they were forced to shut down by the protestors. The court proceedings too had to be postponed for want of  clients.

BJP men staged a protest at Gen. Timmaiah Circle  right from morning till evening under the leadership of Virajapete MLA KG Bopaiah. The protestors demanded immediate arrest of those who fired gunshots at Suja Kushalappa.

BJP leaders MB Devaiah, Ravi Kalappa,Uusha Devamma,  Kishore Kumar, TMC President  Mahesh Jain, Karavanda Kushalappa, VHP Organising Secretary and others participated in the protest.
