Mysuru: In a survey conducted by the Karnataka State University Rating Framework (KSURF) and the Higher Education Council of Karnataka on the parameters of quality of education, research and infrastructure, Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara University in Mysuru which topped the list of Young Universities (established between 5 years and 10 years) will be coming out with world class facilities in health and allied sciences including sports facilities which consist of an international standard cricket stadium at an overall cost of nearly Rs 2000 Crore in 102 acre land at Varuna which is just 10 km from Mysuru city.

In the inaugural edition of the ratings, under the Young Universities Category, JSS University scored high on Teaching Excellence, Inclusiveness, Research and Infrastructure. The University envisages on emerging as the ‘most respected university’ not only in Karnataka but also nationally and globally and will continue to provide quality education that can help transform individuals and the society. In days to come, we will focus on more innovation and research where we scored less marks. The mission of JSSU is to expand the boundaries of education and to make the most amazing learning possible by providing superior undergraduate, graduate and professional education to students, developing and advancing the talents of students to create applicable knowledge, nurturing translational and transformational research that benefits the society and inspiring to excel in health sciences.
“In order to bring about a transformative change from good to excellent by the year 2025, the University will focus on enhanced quality of teaching, learning, research and services, as measured through international accreditation of programmes, a comprehensive and time-lined development of regional campuses with improved governance and management to bring about equitable and sustainable growth, significantly increased postgraduate enrolment, including PhD and Master’s research, student success and supporting faculty, a greater impact of research, to place University amongst the leaders in selected priority areas, including diverse societies and cultures. As of now we have nearly 4000 students, 550 teaching staffs, Rs 30 Crore invested for research. By 2025, we want to increase the student strength to 20,000, teaching staff to 2000 and allocate Rs 200 Crore for research.”
World Class facilities at Varuna:
By the year 2025, JSS University would have expanded the boundaries of education providing learning experiences and encouraging innovation that has helped transform individuals and society and have an enrolment of 20,000 students, maintain fiscal sustainability, complete development of Varuna campus and be listed among the top Universities of the world. The additional world class campus at Varuna will have world class facilities including life science, hospital management studies, administration block including vice chancellor’s chamber, convention hall and Senate Bhavan. The campus will also be a platform for post graduate pharmacy students to take up research in low cost drugs. The work for Rs 2000 Crore project at Varuna will start from April 29.
Sports complex at a cost of Rs 500 Crore in 40 acre land at Varuna:
To get international attention, the university will have a sports complex including international standard cricket stadium and other sports which includes track and field events and tennis courts.
