Mysuru: After attending the the International Yoga day celebrations at the Palace premises on Sunday, the inmates of Vanavasi Kalyana Hostel now practice yoga regularly.
Students belonging to various tribal communities from different parts of the state are residents of the hostel, and six students who practice yoga regularly, took part in the event.
The district education department has imparted training for Physical Education (PE) teachers on yoga. The physical education department has already trained half of the PE teachers in the district. The district has nearly 1500 PE teachers in 2650 schools and 450 teachers are trained, said District PE Department Officer Mariyappa.
In coming days, all the teachers across the district will be trained but classes will be conducted for students only after government’s approval, said DDPI H R Basappa. The department has asked all schools to celebrate Yoga day, he added. Hundreds of National Cadet Corps (NCC) of various government schools participated in International Yoga Day.
JSS Mahavidyapeetha, JSS Technical Institutions campus celebrated the Y-Day at Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) campus.
The demonstrative and practice session was was guided by T Shreekanth, assistant professor, Department of Electronics and Communication. The event was presided by Syed Shakeeb Ur Rahman, principal, SJCE. Devendra Kumar of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Mysuru Makkala Koota (SDMMMK) briefed on yoga and its importance in human life. More than 300 people including, staff members and students participated in event.
Likewise, city’s National Institute of Engineering (NIE) organized yoga day celebration. 300 individuals, including a group of foreign students, college staff, management members, students and public took part. NIE honored six yoga institutions head for their contributions towards promoting yoga in the city. The session was between 6.30am and 7.30am.
Over 75 industry representative with their family members participated at the Yoga session organized by Confederation of Indian Industry, Mysuru chapter to mark international Yoga Day at Hotel Quorum.
