Mysuru: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with Automotive Axles and Meritor India have come out with India’s first green building for public convenience (Toilet) at a cost of nearly Rs one crore atop Chamundi Hill. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to inaugurate the facility on October 1.
Most of the time devotees including tourists who come to Chamundi Hill used to complain about lack of toilet facilities. CII in association with Automotive Axles and Meritor has come out with toilet facilities on the lines of Airport. If one get into this toilet room located next to the temple, they may be delighted to see such hygienic toilet facility. After spending nearly a crore, now it is the responsibility of the public and the tourists to maintain it.
N Muthukumar, Chairman, CII, Mysuru said, “After Mysuru was awarded the cleanest city tag for the first time, we decided to do something for Mysuru. When this was brought to the notice of the then Deputy Commissioner Shikha, she advised us to construct public toilet at tourist places as it was lacking in Mysuru. Immediately, we the industrialists and members of CII accepted the offer. It was started two years back and now it is almost completed and we are trying to invite Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to inaugurate the facility”.
“The new facility is having separate toilet facilities for both men and women. There are 16 urinal points for men and 15 toilets for women; apart from regular toilet, two western toilets are also set up. Apart from this, child care facility including breast feeding is also provided. Separate toilet facility is provided for handicap persons, they can take their wheel chair directly to the toilet room. There are no expenses for power as the entire building will be lighted with solar power. We have also set a sewage treatment plant which will enable to reuse seventy percent of the used water. The entire building is architecturally designed for green building; there is no need of light during day time. After going through all these facilities, Indian Green Building Council, the only green building certifying authority in the country, recognized the building as Green Facility,” added Muthukumar.
He also mentioned that based on MOU with the government, they will be maintaining the building for the first five years. Four persons will be looking after the building and Rs 2 and Rs 4 will be charged for using the facility. “Constructing a building is easy, but to maintain it is difficult. But we will maintain it to the best of conditions,” he stated.
Such toilet facility will be set up at Mysuru Zoo, Karanji Lake, Mysuru Palace and the proposed Tourism Plaza which is coming up at the Exhibition ground. “We will also construct similar toilet facilities at four more tourists’ places in city.
