Mandya : Police who are investigating into the recent case wherein a young woman named Shilpa who had married a man outside her caste, was allegedly  harassed and set on fire allegedly by her in-laws, have arrested  three persons on April 27, Sunday.

Those arrested are Shilpa’s father-in-law – Billaiah, mother-in-law Nagamma,  Billaiah’s younger brother Puttaswamy and his wife Prameela.

Shilpa was chased and literally burnt alive at Kannahalli between Malavalli and Mysore by Puttaswamy and his wife  Prameela, on April 24 morning. They were taken into custody from Bangalore.

Superintendent of Police, Bhushan Borase confirmed that the arrested  has confessed of killing Shilpa and that Abhijeet her husband had no hand in the murder plan.

The entire murder plan was instigated by the three and  Puttaswamy told the police that he and his wife had spoken to Billaiah on the night of April 23

Puttaswamy and his wife were to ride towards Mysore and Billaiah was asked to come in his vehicle from the direction of Mysore. However, as  Billaiah did not reach on time, the murder plan was executed by the couple themselves.

Puttaswamy in his statement to the police said that they stopped the bike at Kannahalli, and tried to kill Shilpa by tightening a veil around her neck. As she escaped and started running away, she fell in a pit.

They then immediately poured petrol from a bottle on her face and head and ignited fire. They left her there to die, and reached Kirugaval village by bike.

Futher he said, “I asked Prameela to go to Mysore, and went to Bannur in the bike. Once Billaiah reached Bannur, we parked the motor bike in the compound of government school there and came to Bangalore to escape from police.”

The policemen have confiscated the motor bike used for the crime. Borase added that all the four, Billaiah, Puttaswamy, Prameela and Nagamma, have been remanded to judicial custody till May 6.
