Mangalore: DK District BJP President Pratap Simha Nayak has alleged that  government sponsored goondaism was underway in Dakshina Kannada district ever since the Congress government has come to power.

Speaking to reporters at the District BJP office, he alleged that there has been a breakdown of the law and order machinery in the district. The police department has completely failed to maintain  law and order, he said adding the maximum cases of goondaism were coming to light in the home constituency of District in-Charge Minister Ramanatha Rai.

“It is an irony that those involved in the toll gate  attack case were those associated with the minister,” he said adding as there was a Congress government both at the Centre and the State, it is possible to stop the toll gate if it was not needed.  “But there seems to be a different  conspiracy behind the vandalism at the toll gate,” he felt.

Nayak further said one of the accused in the toll gate incident Hassainar was also seen campaigning along with the minister and Congress candidate during the Lok Sabha elections. He has over 15 cases against him apart from non-bailable warrants in eight cases. The police had remained silent even when such a person was part of campaigning, he said.

“When a  sincere cop like Bande lost his life his family had to struggle to get a compensation of Rs 5 lakh. But when  a person who was engaged in cattle trafficking  was gunned down,  the government announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs even before any investigation was complete.” Nayak said and resented the FIR registered under Section 302 A against the ANF cop who gunned down the cattle trafficker. But there has been no action in the case wherein the Toll Gate staff were attacked, he said.

It may be no surprise if the Congress implements a Crime Bhagya Scheme in the days to come, he said and charged the Congress of grooming anti-social elements. Nayak further said a dharna would be staged at Bantwal on May 6 in support of various demands and warned that the BJP would resort to a long term agitation if things did not improve.

Former MLA Rukmaya Poojari, MLC Monappa Bhandari, former district BJP Chief Padmanabha Kottari, Diwaker Samani, Sharada Rai and others were present.
