Mysuru: In a bid to promote cleanliness and hygiene, the Hotel Owners’ Association and the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) joined hands on Tuesday to launch a cleanliness campaign.

The campaign was launched with Mayor B L Bhyrappa releasing a poster “Life is Better, Without Litter” to attract the attention of the people towards the cause.

Speaking at the occasion Bhyrappa said, “Everyday the city produces 402 tonnes of waste and the MCC is managing eight zero waste management units to segregate them. But as the population is growing, the MCC has planned two more zero waste management units”.

MCC Commissioner C G Betsurmath said the hotel industry plays a vital role in promoting tourism in Mysuru. “Hotels are the brand ambassadors of the heritage city”, he added.

“The intention of the association is not just to maintain the city’s beauty but to retain the ‘Clean City’ tag. Mysuru was recognised as the cleanest city in the country under the ‘Swacch Bharat’ mission. It’s our responsibility to retain it,” said an association member.

The association aims at promoting hygiene in residential areas, offices, commercial establishments, hospitals, business complexes and other places.

Another member of the association added that hotels will also be equipped with solid waste management units.
