Piriyapattana: The Mysuru district administration president Dr Pushpa Amarnath paid a surprise visit to hostels in the town here on Monday. Her unannounced visit took many department in-charge and staff of the hostels by shocker. Some of the hostel wardens and staff were absent during the visit.

The president visited 10 state-run hostels and listened to the problems of the students.
During the visit it was found that Giddegowda, warden of Morarjee Desai hostel was absent. Further to it, Taluk public welfare officer Chandrappa was lambasted for negligence as these hostels lacked basic facilities.

She also inspected the kitchen, toilets, dining room, store room and examined the standard of maintenance. The students came with complaints like poor quality of food, unhygienic drinking water and sanitation problems.

President instructed Timmegowda, one of the teachers who was present during the visit and asked to train students in English more.

Then she visited pre-metric hostels for boys. From the last two years, milk is not provided for the students and toilets have been cleaned twice a week. Due to this many students have fallen ill, students complained. Even the hostel warden Guruswamy was absent for many days.

When she visited girls hostels there were no students. Soon district panchayat main officer was contacted as to why there are no students and the facilities were not utilized.

The state money has been misused and the condition of the students is pathetic. Action will be taken against all those who were absent during the visit, she said.
