Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police on Tuesday said that they have arrested two persons on the charges of murdering a pregnant woman, when she resisted their advances. The incident took place at Meenakaliya in Panambur when her husband was out on duty.
The accused have been identified as Ajju Pradhan (23) and his uncle Vrindhavan Pradhan (38). Both the accused, who hail from Odisha, work as daily wage labourers for a private firm in Bykampady, the police told the reporters.
According to the police, the accused murdered Ms. Kalpana (25), a migrant from Madhya Pradesh, after she resisted their advances. The police said that the accused, learning her husband was out on night duty, barged into the door in an attempt to rape. But, when she resisted, the duo murdered her, supposedly fearing undue consequences.
The police said that the victim and her husband lived in a rented apartment belonging to one Narasimha Ithal. There are at least 12 families living in the same building, of which most of them are bachelors. The two accused, who also live in the same building, got into the woman’s house, learning she was alone”, the police told the media after holding initial enquiry.
“We arrested the accused with the use of conventional and technical methods. The accused were trying to abscond from the city and were tracked down at Surathkal Railway station on Monday, January 19, the police said.
