Hailstones lash pockets of Mysuru leaving farmers in state of despair

Mysuru: The farmers of the region who had beamed smiles due to some favourable showers across the district are now frightened as there are reports of rains coupled with hailstones coming in from various quarters.

The rains coupled with turbulent wind and hailstones have destroyed crops of farmers in Nagarahole National Park area, Hunasooru and Hanagodu hobli. Ginger, pepper and various other crops on which the farmers had pinned their hopes have been ruined in Uduvepura, Kalabochanahalli, Ayyanakere, Kachuvinahalli, Abburu, Kademanuganahalli, Neralakuppe, Billenahosahalli, B R Kaval area.

The lakes and other water bodies in the area have come alive due to the rains bringing respite to the people and the livestock, but the hailstones have crushed the crops leaving the farmers in state of despair. Several houses too have been partially damaged in the nature’s fury in Uduvepura and nearby villages, adding to thepangs of the farmers.

The situation of the farmers here in the affected area only reinstate the belief that farming in India is truly a gamble with monsoon.
