Gram Panchayat elections: State Election Commissioner holds meeting

Mysuru: In view of the Gram Panchayat (GP) elections scheduled to be held across the State next month, the State Election Commissioner P.N. Sreenivasachary, conducted a preliminary meeting on April 20, Monday, in the city

Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and Zilla Panchayat (ZP) CEOs of Mysuru Revenue Division at the DC’s office were present for the meeting. The Mysuru Revenue Division consists of eight districts namely Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagalur, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.

During the meeting, the State Election Commissioner discussed topics such as total number of voters, number of hoblis, Gram Panchayats, precautions and security measures to be taken during the polls.

Sreenivasachary said that this was the first meeting held with regard to polls. Stating that the GP polls would be held in the last week of May, he added that the dates would be announced in the first week of next month.

He further said that similar meetings would be held in Belagavi Division on Apr. 23, Bengaluru Division on Apr. 25 and on Apr. 28, a meeting would be held in Gulbarga Division.

Mysuru Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha, Mandya DC Dr. M.N. Ajay Nagabhushan, Kodagu DC Anurag Tewari, Udupi DC Vishal, Chikkamagalur DC Shekarappa, Dakshina Kannada DC A.B. Ibrahim, Chamarajanagar DC A.M. Kunjappa and Hassan DC Umesh, Mysuru ZP CEO P.A. Gopal, SP Abhinav Khare, DCP Vinayak Patil and Mandya ZP CEO Rohini Sindhuri were among those present at the meeting.
