Mysuru: The government-run Cheluvamba Hospital for Women and Children is not maintaining its biological waste properly. Due to lack of maintenance of these wastes, the students and teachers who are pursuing ANM course at the ANM Training Centre cum Hostel and GNM and BSc nursing hostel students are being put into a lot of inconvenience.

The garbage which includes bio waste is littered at the dump yard which is even spread to gates of ANM Training school located very next to it. Even in the evening, one can see heaps of garbage at the dumping yard posing a lot of problems to the passersby on this stretch especially the students and teachers of GNM and ANM. Luckily, so far there has been no tragedy but if the authorities fail to address issue properly, the days are not far off when the adverse effects will manifest.

Everyday, more than 150 bags of biological and food wastes are dumped in this yard. There is no proper treatment at this yard. The yard is similar to that of any other dumping yard. The authorities have not taken any serious measure to stop the littering of wastes. Those who are into disposing the waste are also not following proper safety measures. They were seen segregating wastes without having any gloves or any safety measures.

Dr. Pashupathy, District Surgeon, who recently got additional responsibility of ANM Training Centre cum Hostel said, “We have brought this to the notice of the authorities but no action has been taken. Again I will visit the centre and even speak to Cheluvamba Hospital authorities to address the issue at the earliest.

When this was brought to the notice of Dr. Radhamani, Superintendent of Cheluvamba Hospital, she said, “They have dug trenches to put cable wire and that’s the reason the vehicle which used to take these wastes couldn’t do so. I will instruct the people concerned to remove the waste immediately.”
