Mysuru: The goverment, based on request put forth by the farmers is considering providing power for agriculture purposes during the day time rather than in the night informed MK Shankaralinge Gowda, Chairman, Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC). Presently the power is being supplied between 6pm to 6am.

Due to frequent transformer problem faced by farmers combined with the lack of attention by the concern department to get it repaired, a farmer had requested the chairperson to provide water for agriculture purposes during day time i.e between 6am to 6pm instead of providing it in the night time.

“This year based on request from various farmers the government is thinking of providing power during day time that is between 6am to 6pm instead of providing it from 6pm to 6am so that farmers can make maximum use of it and come out with more yield. There are both advantages and disadvantages but we will consider what farmers require,” Shankaralinge Gowda said.

The farmers were appreciative of this proposal mentioning that by providing power during day time, they can use it more judiciously and thus save power. Further they said in the present scenario of providing power in the night time, very often the farmers go to sleep after turning on the power and motor. The same is then put off in the morning thus resulting in considerable waste of both water as well as power.
