Four college students meet watery grave in Cauvery

Srirangapatna :  In a tragic incident, four students of the Maharaja College of Mysore met a watery grave in the Cauvery river near the Nimishamba Temple near Ganjam in the taluk on November 11, Monday.

The deceased are Madan (23) of Metugalli in Mysore, Prasanna (22), son of Somanna Naika of Dharmapura village in Hunasur taluk, Sundaresh (22) of Moodigere in Chikmagalur and Harish (23) of T. Narasipura.

It is said   the four along with  Sunil, Rangaswamy and DG Praveen, all final year B.Com students of the College had decided to go on a picnic on Monday. They  went to Chamundi Hills by bus  where they offered prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari and later  visited the nearby  tourist places.  They even visited  Nimishamba Temple  and at around 3.30 pm had  food  on a rock  in the midst of Cauvery river.

The tragedy occurred when they decided to have a swim. Senior police officials including Southern Range IGP Ramachandra Rao, DC BN Krishnayya, SP Bhushan G Borase  visited the spot. Even local MLA Ramesh Babu arrived. The bodies of Madan and Prasanna have been traced while efforts are on by divers and fire service personnel to retrieve the bodies of the other two students.

Srirangapatna police have registered a case.
