Hunsur: Many wild animals and huge amount of forest wealth might have perished in the forest fire, which has caused extensive damage in Nagarahole National Park .
Forest areas in Hunsur and Gonikoppa region are the worst hit in the forest fire that was spotted on Wednesday night, January 25. The fire was first noticed in Kachuvinahalli in Anechowkuru region and Aldoddi of Veerana Hosahalli region at 8 pm. The fire engulfed the entire area in quick time and forest personnel were seen making all efforts to douse the flame. Personnel from Special Task Force (STF) arrived at the spot immediately after the villagers informed them.
Manikanatan, Director of Tiger protection confirmed about the fire and briefed on the measures taken to control the fire from spreading to other areas.
Teams have been operating from all directions and are making serious attempts to douse the fire, he added.
At the same time, it is too early to assess the cause as well as the extent of damage, he stated.
