Farmer’s suicide: District administration gears-up with welfare measures

Mysuru: The district administration came together on Tuesday July 14 during the KDP progress review meeting, to discuss welfare measures for the farmers after the increase in the numbers of suicide in the surrounding.

Zilla Panchayat President Dr. Pushpa B. Amarnath instructed the Department of Agriculture officials to collect the database of farmers in the district.

Addressing the officials at the ZP auditorium, she instructed Department of Agriculture Joint Director Mahanteshappa to collect information and contact numbers of all 3.60 lakh farmers in Mysuru district within a week’s time and to send them messages on welfare projects announced by the State Government.

Dr. Pushpa also told the officials to conduct meetings with the farmers at the taluk level to understand their problems and help them find solutions.

Stating that despite instructing the officials to purchase vegetables from Hopcoms, the officials continued to invite tenders for the supply of vegetables to BCM and Social Welfare Department Students’ Hostel, ZP CEO P.A. On which Gopal warned the officials to stop inviting tenders immediately and to purchase vegetables only from hopcoms.

Dr. Pushpa instructed DDPI H.R. Basappa to initiate measures against Pushpa Convent in Periyapatna which was yet to return Rs. 32 lakh collected excessively from the students.

Zilla Panchayat Vice-President L. Madappa, Standing Committee on Social Justice Chairman Patel Javaregowda and ZP Chief Planning Officer Prabhu Swamy were present during the meeting.
