Nanjangud: An engineering student escaped from the hands of miscreants in a dramatic way in broad daylight kidnap attempt in Nanjangud on August 27.

Ramya, a resident of Mandya district, studying final year engineering at Government Engineering College, Chamarajanagar, escaped from the hands of imposters.

Ramya’s uncle Satish, an employee at BMTC had asked the girl to meet him at Nanjangud enroute his bus trip. Accordingly, Ramya left from her hostel at Chamarajanagar to meet her uncle near Srikanteswara temple in Nanjangud.

Meanwhile, a woman accompanied by a driver arrived in a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number KA-10 M-7070 and started conversing with Ramya. These imposters gained Ramya’s confidence by pretending to be her uncle’s known acquaintances. They assured her of dropping at Hullahalli circle in Nanjangud, where they said her uncle was waiting for her. Meanwhile, the lone woman got out of the vehicle on some pretext leaving Ramya alone with the driver.

When the driver turned his vehicle towards Gundlupet instead of proceeding to Hullahalli circle, Ramya grew suspicious and questioned driver’s motive. When driver asked her to shut up and remain quiet, a fearfully upset Ramya attempted to bite his hand when the vehicle approached police quarters to escape from his clutches. In the melee, the driver lost control and the Scorpio vehicle veered off road. A panic-stricken driver fled the scene leaving the vehicle behind.

Later, Ramya approached Nanjangud rural police to lodge a complaint. After collecting the details, Nanjangud town police visited the spot and registered the complaint.

Further investigations are in progress by a team of Nanjangud police officials and crime branch.
