Mysuru: “Already we have received direction from the government that this year Dasara should also be similar to that of last year’s celebrations. Hence keeping that in mind we have proposed Rs 14.25 Crore to the government,” said Deputy Commissioner D Randeep. He also instructed all the officials to get all the work completed by the end of August.

Though usually Dasara is celebrated in the month of October every year, this time Dasara will be celebrated from September 21 to 30. Keeping this in mind, district administration led by deputy commissioner D Randeep is going all out in his efforts to see that things are ready well in advance and there is no work taken in the last minute.

Prior to Higher Power Committee meeting which will be held on July 24 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru, Randeep convened a preview meeting with his officials. During the meeting he took feedbacks and the proposed budget from each department. “Usually the grand celebration of Dasara used to start ten days prior to the procession but this year we have decided to do it in a grand manner from the arrival of the Dasara elephant itself. We will try to attract tourists to the spot where elephants arrive and also to palace when the elephants are received. Proper awareness in this regard will also be done”, added Randeep. He also mentioned that there will be nearly 16 to 17 official committees for Dasara celebration and non official committee will be decided during the executive meeting which will held under the chairmanship of district minister by the end of this month.

“Though we have direction to conduct dasara like last year but still the decision will be taken up during High Power Committee which will be held on July 24 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. We will be laying more emphasis on quality events and tourists who visit Mysuru should feel happy and think that there is tradition of Dasara in Mysuru. They should have good experience during their stay in Mysuru. Dasara publicity related aspects will be borne by information and tourism department and we are not going to spend any money from Dasara funds. We will try to avoid unnecessary expenditure” added Randeep.

He also called upon corporation commissioner Jagadeesh to take up the potholes related work well in advance. Jagadeesh requested Deputy Commissioner for Rs 21 Crore for taking up various potholes related work across the city and additional Rs 45 Lakh for cleanliness drive from September 1 to 30 where additional 300 workers will be pressed for work across the city. Randeep also assured to take up the issue related to Rs 6.40 Crore which is pending from the government for the last year’s Dasara celebration.

Permanent Dasara logo:

“We had request from tourism department that it is difficult to promote Dasara if we keep on changing logo every year. Hence keeping this in mind we are planning to come out with a permanent logo. The decision on how to go about logo will be taken up during HPC meeting”, he said.

World Tourism Day in Mysuru:

“When information and tourism minister visited Mysuru he had mentioned that state world tourism day will be celebrated in Mysuru on September 27. Something in writing if we get it will be also taken up in grand manner”, he added.

During the meeting various departments including MUDA, Corporation, PWD, Tourism and CHESCOM proposed their budget for the forthcoming Dasara celebration.
