Despite cardiac arrest KSRTC bus driver saves all passengers

Mysuru: The presence of mind of a KSRTC driver, who suffered a heart attack while on duty, ensured the safety of 30 persons travelling in a bus, here on Tuesday.

The incident occured on Tuesday near Columbia-Asia Hospital, along Bengaluru-Mysuru Road around 9.30 am. Chennegowda (52), hailing from Kolakaranadoddi in Mandya district, employed as a driver at Maddur KSRTC bus depot in Mandya district suffered a cardiac arrest on duty.

Soon he parked the bus and asked passengers to help him. But he breathed his last shortly thereafter at a private hospital in the city.

The bus was plying from Maddur to Madikeri, when Chennegowda suffered a cardiac arrest near Columbia Asia Hospital.

According to eye witness accounts, the driver realised that he was suffering an attack, and soon parked the bus and called the passengers for help. The passengers quickly rushed him to the nearby hospital, where he breathed his last after not responding to the treatment provided.

The presence of mind of the driver has been appreciated by all.

Senior officials visited the hospital, met his family and offered condolences.
