Dasara exhibition inaugurated, empty stalls greet visitors

Mysuru: Visitors who came to visit the annual Dasara Exhibition on the day of its inauguration on Saturday were greeted by empty stalls. Most of the works of the stalls are still going on and going by ground reality, it will take another five days to get them completed and open for public in full-swing. When compared to last year, the businessmen from Tamil Nadu for Dasara Exhibition have come down by 50 per cent.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait and the District In-charge Minister H C Mahadevappa inaugurated the expo on Saturday. The exhibition ground is home to numerous stalls. As many as 143 stalls are put up at the ground that includes amusement park, mono train, textile shops, jewellery shops and food stalls. The exhibition will be held till December 26. A special arrangement has been made to park 500 cars, 800 two-wheelers and 30 buses. This year’s main attraction will be a replica of ‘Amarnath Yatra’ which will give the visitors a virtual feel of visiting the Amarnath shrine.

Though the authorities initially had planned to come out with all stalls opened for public during the time of inauguration, due to Cauvery related issues, the work got slowed down. The experts who were to be summoned for various works too got delayed due to Cauvery agitation. According to NM Shashi Kumar, CEO of Karnataka Exhibition Authority, in another five days, all the stalls will be opened for the public.

Shashi Kumar said, “Due to Cauvery agitation, the work got delayed, but still we have managed to complete many works on time. Almost all stalls will be ready for the public in another five days. Most of the exterior works are almost completed; it is only the interior works which is pending. The stalls of ZP, Board and Corporations are also yet to be completed. All the work will be completed on or before October 5.

Many businessmen from Tamil Nadu not taking part

Every year during dasara expo, good number of businessmen from Tamil Nadu used to take part in the Dasara exhibition. But this year, more than 50 per cent of them will not be taking part in the expo. Last year 65 stalls were occupied by Tamil Nadu businessmen, but this year it has come down to 30 to 35 stalls. Most of them deal with textile business.
