Cops nab Chain-Snatcher, Recover Jewellery worth Few Lac

Mysore: The city cops arrested a chain-snatcher with the help of public and recovered jewellery worth Rs 42.32 lac, title deed of housing site and a motor cycle.

It was revealed by Superintendent of Police, during a press meet held  here on Friday August 16.

The chain-snatcher Dharmendra Prasad was nabbed by the public while on the act of snatching mangalsutra from the neck of housewife Mandakini, a native of Vijayanagar, while the interrogations revealed Dharmendra has committed several such thefts in the past.

Dharmendra has committed 15 such acts at the limits of Vijayanagar police station, 4 cases each in Jayalaxmipuram and V V Puram, 2 cases in Saraswatipuram, 1 each case sin Udayagiri, Vidhyaranyapuram and Laxmipuram.  He has revealed that he has gathered jewellery worth 1.199 kilogram out of a total of 29 cases and sold the jewellery in pawn shops; out of the money he had bought a housing plot in a key location in the city, confessed Dharmendra.

The passer-by Sudarshan and Subramanya nabbed Dharmendra while on the act in Vijayanagar and handed over him to the police custody.  His motorcycle also seized by the police.

Dharmendra is hailing from J P Nagar, who deserted his parents to live with his wife in Hebbal. He was after luxurious life that lured him to do such acts.

DCP Rajanna, crime department DCP M M Mahadevayya, Vijayanagar sub-inspecdtor B R Lingappa, assistant-inspector Kumar, Punit, head police constable Krishna, Shivaram, Channabasappa and others were present at the press meet.
