Mysore: Mysore University is once again ridden with controversy.  No sooner the controversy related to the appointment of retired employees against the rules by the chancellor Rangappa is cooling off, another controversy has surfaced.

The appointment of Dr C Basavaraj as the new chancellor is the controversial issue.  CM Siddaramaiah who was the opposition leader in legislative assembly urged the then education minister in 2007 to cancel the appointment of Dr Basavaraju as professor of same University.  Siddramaiahs letter dated July 4 2008 alleged serious corruptions in the appointment of lecturers, professors and deans in Mysore University during 2006 – 07.  The allegations were made by the then MLA Siddaramaiah, in violation of reservation norms, selection process in considering teaching experiences, violation of UGC norms related to qualifications by disregarding Syndicate decisions.

All those allegations that are made by CM Siddaramaiah in the past are ignored in appointing Dr C Basavaraju as one of the professor in Mysore University, since the post was not reserved for SC.  Siddaramaiah had written a letter to the then higher education minister seeking to cancel all the twelve appointments including Dr Basavaraju.

Siddaramaiah, the present co-operative minister H S Mahadev Prasad and former PWD minister Dr H C Mahadevappa in a letter urged the state administration to take action on the then chancellor B J Hosamat, holding him responsible in this issue.  Meanwhile, the state higher education department issued order dated June 24 2013, appointing Dr Basavaraju who was the dean and professor of legal department of Mysore University as its chancellor.
