Madikeri : An incident wherein a Congress candidate was brutally assaulted by a gang of four persons said to be belonging to SDPI has been reported from the town during the TMC election process.





KU Abdul Razak, the Congress candidate from Ward No. 23 in Azadnagar, his brother Zakria and Zakria’s son Farooq and Sadath of Mysore were seriously injured and have been admitted to the Government Hospital.
Even Khaleel and Jaleel, said to be the accused in the case have got themselves admitted to hospital. Local police have registered complaints lodged by both sides.
The incident : The election process to ward 23 in Azadnagar layour was on at Ambedkar Bhavan near Gadduge when workers of various parties had gathered outside the polling booth to woo the voters. At around 2.30 pm, a police officer on security duty had gone for lunch when around 20 men said to be belonging to SDPI assaulted the candidate Abdul Razak and two others. When Sadath tried to prevent them he too was assaulted.
Speaking to media men later on the candidate Abdul Razak said the SDPI act of assaulting him was out of frustration as the SDPI was sure of Congress win in the ward.
Meanwhile, an incident wherein Naufal, the son of Abdul Razak was also attacked took place outside the hospital. The police who were present, immediately took the attacker to custody.
CT John, MLC, BT Pradeep, DCC President, Veena Achaiah, former president and several party leaders visited the hospital and met the assault victims.
