Mysore: State Minister Srinivas Prasad has stressed the need to celebrate the birth anniversary of Nalvady Krishnaraja Wodeyar of the Mysore royal clan as a National Festival instead of restricting the celebrations merely to Mysore and Bangalore.















He was speaking after inaugurating the 130th birth anniversary of Nalvady Krishnaraja Wodeyar at the Centenary Hall of Maharaja College on Wednesday June 4 under the joint aegis of the District Administration, Department of Kannada and Culture, Mysore City Corporation and the Arasu Mandali.
The Minister also informed on the occasion that it has been decided to install the statue of Wodeyar at the Harding Circle in the city. He further said a sum of Rs 100 crore has been released to give a facelift to heritage structures in the cultural city.
On this occasion, he also recalled how Mahatma Gandhiji during his visit to the city once had appreciated the administration of Nalvady Krishnaraja Wodeyar.
A documentary on Sri Nalvady Krishnaraja Wodeyar and Jayachamaraja Wodeyar prepared by the Information Department was screened on the occasion. MLA Vasu presided over the function. Thinker N Mahesh gave a take on Wodeyar. NM Rajeshwari, Mayor, M Mahadevu, ZP President, V Shailendra, Deputy Mayor, ZP Vice President Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swami, TP Chief Nirmala, Pradbudeva Aras, Mohan Devaraje Aras and others were present as chief guest.
As part of the celebrations a colourful procession was taken out from near the Prasanna Lakshminarayana Temple in the premises of the Place upto the DC office . The procession passed through Jayachamaraja Wodeyar Circle, Sayyaji Rao and KR Circle where the statue of Nalvady Wodeyar was garlanded.
Cultural troupes performing Veerabhadrana Kunitha, Dollu Kunitha, Kamsale, Nagari, Nadaswara artistes, Garudi Gombe,Pooja Kunitha etc added glitter to the procession.
