Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking after inaugurating the D. Banumaiah PG Center at its premises on Wednesday, said that though D Banumaiah was not educated he had concern towards society. “His ideas to encourage education and to create awareness among public about the social justice are noble thoughts”, he averred

The CM said “It is very few people who devote money which they earn from society. His principles and vision set an example to society. If non-brahmins have got social justice, it is because of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar. Krishnaraja Wodeyar set up the Miller committee to understand the social and economic status of non-Brahmins which revealed the ground reality”.
“D Banumaiah was among the those intellectuals who wanted to bring social justice,” he added. It is only after their efforts that 75 percent of the available jobs were reserved for non brahmins.
Law and parliamentary affairs minister T B Jayachandra said, “it was D Banumaiah who initiated the social justice movement. It was Mysore, where the movement to provide social justice to minorities kicked off”. D Banumaiah is one among those visionary leaders who stressed upon the importance of education”, he added.
District in-charge and revenue minister Srinivas Prasad said, “ the importance of education was taught to us by the British. If we were not exposed to education, we would have lagged behind comprehensively.”
