City’s KARP Mounted Police Unit gets 7 more horses

Mysuru: The city’s KARP Mounted Police has got 7 more horses added to its fleet. With this latest addition, the number of horses in the KARP Mounted Police Unit has gone upto 64.

Initially, the KARP Mounted Police had a strength of 90 horses and over the years, this number reduced to 46, as many horses died of old age.

The City Police Commissioner, taking cognisance of the key role played by the Mounted Police in traffic regulation, Dasara bandobust as well as in the prevention of crimes, corresponded with the government and succeeded in getting 11 horses from Gujarat in Jul. 2014, thus taking the fleet strength to 57.

Now, in a new addition, 7 more horses were brought from Khatewadi in Gujarat at a cost of Rs. 8,55,000.

The horses purchased are of the best breed and they will be named soon, according to a press release from the City Police Commissioner’s office.
