Mysuru: The sleuths of City Crime Branch (CCB) Police arrested three persons from Jayalakshmipuram, for extorting Rs. 25 lakh from a city builder on Monday November 4.
According to the police, the arrogance of the miscreants was such, that they called the builder in the guise of CCB Police from Bangalore.
The arrested have been identified as M Manu, R Vinay and Chethan Kumar. It has been revealed that two of the three accused were working for the victim identified as Venugopal.
It is learnt that Venugopal owner of Sri Sai Lakshmi Engineers in Jayalakshmipuram was the promoter of Sri Sai Heritage Enclave Apartments. M Manu, R Vinay and Chethan Kumar were working for Venugopal’s firm.
While Manu was working as a supervisor, Vinay was working as a Site Engineer and Chethan Kumar was in the construction field working as a Civil Engineer.
It is reported that on September 13, Chetan called up Venugopal claiming to be from the Bengaluru CCB Police and demanded a payment of Rs. 25 lakh, failing which he threatened to make public the documents in his possession, which pointed to the poor quality of construction of a building in Bengaluru.
It is reported that Manu and Vinay asked Chetan to make the call as Venugopal would recognize their voice as they worked for him.
It is said that initially Venugopal paid the sum, however when the trio demanded for more money he filed a complaint with the city police.
The City Police suspected an inside job kept an eye out for the duo who worked for Venugopal, which revealed their shenanigans. They also seized a part of the extortion.
City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem supervised operation along with other officials.
