Chamarajanagar: A President of local body who was allegedly being threatened and harrassed by the members attempted suicide here on August 30 in Gundlupete.
Kotekere gram panchayath President S Rani attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills at her residence and it is said that after being elected as the president of Kotekere gram panchayath, Rani was being threatened and harassed by members Raghavendra and Kurubarahundi Gouramma’s son Madappa. Dejected over harassment, Rani consumed pills on Sunday night. However, immediately when the family members came to know about it, they shifted her to the hospital. She is said to be out of danger.

Rani said that she took the extreme step following repeated harassment and baseless allegations against her from the members of the local body. They had alleged that she misused funds meant for construction of toilets while 340 toilets were built using the funds. Doctors said that she is recovering. A case has been registered at Begur police station.
