Mysuru: “Our elected representatives go out for foreign tours such as Singapore, China and many other places for city planning and maintenance. But if we look back at our own heritage city Mysuru, I don’t think you can find a better place which is well planned and well organised by the Wadiyars of Mysuru,” said vice chancellor of University of Mysuru professor M G Krishnan.

He was speaking at the inaugural of the planning forum for the academic year 2014-15 organised by Department of Studies in economics and co-operation, Manasagangotri, University of Mysore here at the humanities building on Friday.
After inaugurating the programme he said, “One should understand that organised planning that was adapted by Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar who had stressed upon women education in India, dalit education and city planning. If one goes across the city he would find evidence of this. For instance, in ontikoppal, the road which was built almost a 100 years ago, is wide enough and had pedestrian paths also. The concept of having a pedestrian path 100 years ago is unbelievable”.
Today if India is developed, it is thanks to Jawaharlal Nehru, who introduced the planning commission in India which helped the growth of the country. In Russia there is a 7 year planning commission which again has played a role in the development of the country.”
There are people who are not well educated but have emerged as successful personalities in their streams. Among them, J J Rousseau, who was not educated as we are, was the only intellectual who was part of the French revolution. Neither he was organised nor was he was educated enough. But he always strived to gain something”.
Chairman of DOS in economics and co-operation, Manasagangothri, Professor S Mahendra Kumar, associate professor Dr Mahesh M and many others were present.
