Mangaluru: The sleuths of City Crime Branch (CCB) arrested two persons for alleged illegal possession of fire arms and sharp weapons.

The arrested are Mohammed Rafiq (42) and his relative Ashfaq (24), both from Gurupura.

The police have recovered a machete, three live bullets, a dummy revolver and two mobile phones. The police said the accused were attempting a dacoity. However, unconfirmed sources said that the arrested wanted to cause communal violence during the protest called by right wing activists.

Asfaq had been arrested four years ago for his alleged involvement in a stabbing case in Bajpe police station limits. He had gone abroad after being released on bail. A local court had issued a warrant after he failed to appear in the court after his return to the city two years ago, the police said.

Sources in the police said that six persons managed to escape from the spot. Earlier, two persons were arrested from the house in Gurupura, for their alleged involvement in the Ulaibettu clash.

A team led by Police Commissioner R Hitendra and DCP (law and order) Dr K V Jagadish, DCP crime Vishnuvardh carried out the operation. CCB inspector Valintine D’Souza was part of the team.
