Mysuru: To get more public support against the ongoing development works atop Chamundil Hill, various organizations including ‘Lets Do It’ and ‘Mysore Grahakara Parishat’ have decided to take out candle light procession on June 18.

Addressing media persons at Press Club here on Wednesday Bhamy Shenoy said “To gain public support against ongoing developmental works atop Chamundi Hill, a candle light procession will be held on June 18 at 6.30pm. The procession will begin at Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple and pass through thorough fares of the city including Sriharsha road, Suburban bus stand, Gandhi Square and culminate at the Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple.”

There are few heritage buildings atop the hill including Devi Kere and Mahabaleswara Temple. To take up any developmental works, the authorities have to take permission from forest department and even from Heritage Commission, but they have not taken. Hence we have decided to file petition before National Green Tribunal in Chennai and also in the High Court. If these developmental works are taken up in full swing there will be ecological imbalance, Shenoy opined.

The development work, which is being taken up at a cost of Rs 80 crores includes widening of road from Viewpoint to Mahishasura statue, construction of parking lot, public toilets and shopping complex.

Earlier, Let’s Do It organization had organized protest rally on May 30, were in Royal Mother Pramoda Devi and Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar too took part.

Including migrating birds, Chamundi Hill has more than 150 species of birds, whose natural habitat is at stake.
