Mysore: Former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said he will focus on strengthening his Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) and forge an alliance with other parties in the next Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing reporters during a meeting of KJP leaders to discuss the MLC election for the Mysore-Chamrajanagar local bodies constituency, Yeddyurappa denied any proposal to merge KJP with BJP. He claimed that leaders of all political parties are in consultation with him to finalize a poll alliance.

Clarifying that he will not field KJP candidates in the by-elections to Bengaluru Rural and Mandya Lok Sabha constituencies, he said a decision will be taken on August 5 on extending support to other political parties in the elections.

However, the KJP has decided to put up candidates for the three MLC seats which go to polls on August 22. Yeddyurappa declared that V.S. Shekhar would be the KJP candidate for the Mysore-Chamarajnagar constituency.
