Mysuru: It was love at first sight for 22-year-old M Shiva Kumar. Pushpa’s beauty and mannerisms had left Shivakumar smitten. After falling head over heels in love with her, the fact that she could neither hear what he wanted to say nor could she say what he wanted to hear, simply made no difference.
He decided to propose to her in the most beautiful way and as he said ‘I Love You’ in sign language, Suttur Jathra Mahotsav witnessed the union of the two in the beautiful bond of marriage.
Shivakumar first saw Pushpa at a wedding ceremony and she caught his eyes and heart. Soon, he traced her house , which was about 30 kms from his house.
A smitten lover, Shivakumar used to loiter outside her home just have one glimpse of Pushpa. They used to exchange smiles. For about two years, the two never spoke to each other.
Finally, Shivakumar proposed to Pushpa through a love letter during a wedding ceremony and this was when Pushpa conveyed to Shivakumar that she was deaf and dumb.
Shiva was shocked, but the truth did not deter him in even slightest way. He stood firm by his stand to marry her and he did it.
“I got bowled over by her beauty and her behaviour. Nothing could change my decision to be with her,” said Shivakumar, a farmer.
